Bookworms Club - Under The Sea

Heya Book Friends,
This month the theme was 'Under The Sea'. That could be interpreted from anything beach, sea, ocean creature etc related. There are so many books to suit this theme - it's one I really enjoy incorporating into my younger grade classrooms.
At the beginning of the month, I felt organised and calm. We again, headed to the local library to source some new reads for this theme. I also treated the kids to a few new books from the bookstore. I envisioned & planned the learning activities we were going to do. I researched some great movies we could watch & online interactive games. I even planned a day trip to the beach to explore the topic some more. BUT then, the direction of month changed completely when we all {but mainly Ryder} fell so ill. We lost a huge chunk of the month. And instead of reading, learning, playing & discovering.....our focus became more about healing, resting, recovering & basically surviving through the ickiness and hurdles.
However, we did get some 'Under The Sea' fun done...of course.
One of my favourite books: COMMOTION IN THE OCEAN by Giles Andreae. It's colourful, fun, catchy & educational too. It rhymes and flows and grabs kid's attention.

"There's a curious commotion at the bottom of the ocean. I think we ought to go & take a look. You'll find every sort of creature that lives beneath the sea swimming through the pages of this book."

We did some basic art n craft to recreate some of the creatures from the book.
A little bit of cutting, gluing, painting & shaping...... Ella was in her element :)

Introducing: Henry, Sam & Lucy

We also read {and re-read, and then re-read again haaa} Disney's The Little Mermaid {one of Ella's faves} as well as Finding Nemo. Now, that we're here on the gorgeous Whitsunday Islands, we can do some 'real life' follow up activities.....as we search for Nemo, and see the creatures from this books, in their own environment. Lucky!
How did you go this month with the theme? Find any great books to suit? I'd love to know :) Link up below if you have any experiences to share :) And thank you to those who have sent me pics of their kids participating. I'll share them soon on here :)
Happy reading :)

You did well Claire managing any crafty fun during your tough month of sickness - the paper plate jellyfish looks cute! I shared an activity Grace and I did after reading The Rainbow Fish as part of my blog post today :) Can't wait to see the next theme you have planned...
Hi Claire, I'm so sorry that I haven't joined in with these book worm club themes, the first trimester of pregnancy sucked the life outta me! I felt nauseous constantly, epsecially when using the computer - motion sickness from the screen! Who'd have thought? Are you doing a book club for September or October? I'd love to join in.
Looks like you had a fab time on your holiday!
