Welcome to the bloggy home of Claire Chadwick. I'm the face & designer behind Scissors Paper Rock Designs, a wife to Chris, Mummy to the Divine Miss Ella & our newest addition; Baby Ryder. I'm a Primary School Teacher by trade, but recently shut my classroom door to pursue other BIG dreams of Freelance Writing. I am also excited to announce that my first Children's Picture Book {So Many Sounds} will hit stores in June 2013. This blog is my little online space where I weave together my reflections and stories of Motherhood. I illustrate with photos.... and drink plenty of coffee to keep me going. I'm on a mission to turn the mundane moments of motherhood into MAGICAL ones.

Join me in seeping as much goodness out of life, {whilst I continue to drink way too much coffee & take way too many photos} and together we can make the most of our WILD & PRECIOUS LIVES!

I'd love to hear from you....comment on my posts or send me an email. Buckle up, Enjoy the ride!

Bookworm Club. JULY Wrap-up. {and August theme}

Hello Little Bookwormers :)

How did everyone's reading journeys go this month?

The BUG theme has been fun. Here at my place we got up to all kinds of 'buggy fun'. You read about my first lot of BUG Books & Experiences HERE!

To finish up the month, we re-read over the same books from Part 1, but also introduced some new ones.

A new one we found at the local library was: Snail Trail by Jo Saxton.

They say to never judge a book by it's cover....but to be honest....I did with this one :) I chose it because I liked the arty look the front cover portrayed, and it's potential to be turned into a craft activity :)

The book was very different from anything we've read before. Different in a refreshing way :) It was fun to follow the snail on his silvery trail to find the perfect masterpiece. The art & illustrations in the book are fab. Ella commented on the types of pictures. She was fascinated. It really is a visually pleasing book for kids.

And as a follow-up activitity....we used some art n craft materials to remake the snail....

I drew the snail outline onto white card. And left the rest of the work to Ella :)

She made a replica of the snail in the story. He had a blue painted body & a paper-collage shell....with googly eyes of course, and Ella's addition - orange eyebrows :)

What do you think?

Easy.....fun.....and great for fine motor skills, and creativity.

To wrap up the month of Bugs & Insects; Ella & I made EARTHWORM MUDCAKE :))

I made this cake a couple of years ago with my grade 2 class. We had just finished the 'Year 2 Net', which focussed on Insects. It's a great recipe to do with kids....because not only is it FUN.....but it's a no-cook, easy recipe. You can get the recipe HERE!!! Enjoy!! And, It actually tastes DIVINE!!!!

Another fun baking idea, that my Aunty Kaye suggested was SPIDER CRACKLES! I've since been told that the recipe for these are the back of the Crunchy Noodle packets :) YUMMMMM! Thanks Kaye x.

We also bought some new magnifying glasses from the $2 shop so we could go on a 'real bug hunt'.....but we didn't get round to it this month! Not enough hours in the day for all the educational fun that I'd love to do with my kids!!!

Also, a big CONGRATS to Cassie from Home is Where The Heart Is....she linked up mid-month and is the winner of the book I was giving away!!! Thanks Cass x.

Did you join in with the Bookworm Club in July??? If so, please link up below, so we can all come over to visit. It's liberating to share ideas & experiences. It's inspirational. Thank-you to those who have emailed me saying they missed July but are keen for August! See you then :)

Which brings me to announcing the theme for AUGUST :

UNDER THE SEA!!!!

You could look at non-fiction or fiction. Anything that contains the seaside, water, sea creatures, the beach etc. Your book study could contain online reads, or paper books. Comics or magazines....anything!

Click HERE to see some suggestion by Amazon in age categories for this theme!!

And I'll also do another book giveaway in August, which I'll announce at a later date.

There will be a mid-month link up, and an end of month link-up. Keep posted for dates. Join in with both linkys or just one....whatever fits with you :) No stress ;)

THANKS & ENJOY!!!!

It looks as though you guys had so much fun with July's theme. Love the cake!! I remember you making it with your Year 2 class. We are planning a few more craft activities relating to our book. Thanks so much for the book too. It's another book I can enjoy together with the kids. Cassie x

I love this idea of yours Claire, it's really helped me focus on coming up with some fun things to do with Grace and let to us discovering some great new books. Seeing that snail book reminded me of one sitting here on our bookshelf that has a snail in it that I forgot all about but it is actually suitable for your August theme so that's good :) I love how you've expanded your book exploration with Ella into not only craft, but also cooking too. You are such a clever mama! Grace and I are off to the shops after Soph's nap to stock up on craft supplies so we can follow your lead this month. LOVE the theme - such scope for so many books and activities. P.S I wish Grace would smile as beautifully as your photogenic little Ella for photos - we get such a daggy pose every time I ask her to 'smile' for me :)

Hi Claire, what a great idea, and just the inspiration I need. I find it hard to balance work/parenting, and on the days I'm home with the twinadoes we tend to do the same things again and again. We'll be joining you this month :) Jen
