Are you covered?

Just before I turned 21, my Mum called me & wanted to speak to me about Private Health Insurance. At 20, I was healthy, fit & very resilient - health insurance was the LAST thing on my mind. I was on my parent's family cover until I was 21, and Mum was suggesting I get my own cover to make sure I was financially protected if there was an emergency or; in any unforeseen medical needs in the future.

Later that year, it turned out I wasn't so invincible afterall, and health cover HAD TO be addressed. I came down with a bad bout of Glandular Fever which had me taking time off work & needing lots of tests & doctor visits, and then I had to undergo surgery to get my wisdom teeth taken out.

Choosing a health insurance company back then was an overwhelming experience. There were so many private companies - all offering the same promises, but for different costs. The more I researched who I should take a policy with, the more stressful it became. Thankfully there's now easy, stress-free options when it comes to choosing the best packages, cover options, and costs for you and/or your family. Choosi is an online site that makes the researching & decision making process of health cover, a million times easier. They are not an insurer.....they are a simple go-to place that helps you compare health insurance and find the best possible insurer for your needs. You can talk to a Choosi rep on the phone, or use their simple online forms. As their site says: Our business is giving you a better way to choose and buy insurance.

Now that I'm a parent, Medical bills & appointments are a regular occurrence in our monthly schedules. Doctor visits for runny noses & high temps, immunisations & Paediatrician appointments are a big part of our life nowadays. Then there's the unexpected costs of the unplanned appointments, like when we discovered Ella needed glasses {at a good $300 a pop} or when she was hospitalised for a nasty asthma attack, and the dental visits after she had a run-in with the playground & chipped her front tooth. These are just a few examples of when having cover & insurance gives you peace of mind.

Lately, there's been some who-haa over changes happening to the Health Rebate on July 1st {in 2 days} here in Australia. Looks like there's some big changes happening which will result in more money spent for some....or even more money not re-gained. To find out more, head here.

It got me thinking about our family's health, money & protection. Looks like I need to give Choosi a call :)

Coz at the end of the day, health is one of the most important things in this lifetime we have, isn't it?

To find the best cover & options for you, no matter what your circumstances, check out choosi.com.au or give them a call: 1300 884 384

I ask you; Do you currently have Private Health Cover? Are you happy with where your money is going & what you're getting for your insurance cover?

Happy Friday All.

This is a featured post on behalf of Choosi, however all opinions are my own.

My mum has always said "I would rather you pay for private health insurance instead of groceries and eat here every night" Its never been a question on my mind! I will always have private health insurance and I have the top cover! Rob and I recently joined onto a family cover and we are paying $50 than if we had our own separate covers. It pays to look into the different options! Why I didn't change 2 years ago when we first got married I don't know hehe

We have private cover. Like you, I have been covered since I ran off my parents cover. Although I haven't really used it all that much myself, except for having my children, it is peace of mind knowing it's there if we need it. I've been with the same insurer since I was in my 20s and am pretty happy with what we pay - I get a discounted rate through work, but often think that a loyalty bonus would be nice....

We don't have private health cover. I have looked at it since we moved here 5 years ago, but always think it is very expensive for the 6 of us. It is good to read what everyone else thinks. So far our experience of the public system has been positive.

Paul and I were both on our parents cover and then joined to a family one back when we got married. I'm extremely glad we have it,especially back when I had my girls in a private maternity hospital which was bliss!! So nice to be fully covered in such a great hospital. Also, when Sophie was admitted to hospital last year, it was in the paediatric ward in a public hospital but because we had private cover, there were a few bonus perks like meal vouchers, newspapers etc. There's some certain dental work though that I recently found out I won't be covered for and even changing to the top cover, I'll be better off forking out for the dental work myself. Either way, I think having private cover with children is good x
