Sick Days. {and Johnson's GIVEAWAY}

Tuesday night, Ella came down with the most violent bout of gastro I have ever seen. I sat up with her all night, wiping her face, changing her clothes, emptying sick buckets, holding back her hair, and telling her everything was going to be alright.

Come Wednesday morning, I was a Mum on a mission. Every bed was stripped, every sheet was washed. Every bench in sight was disinfected and every toy wiped over. I was whizzing around the house fueled by adrenalin to take care of Ella, yet still give time & attention to Ryder all whilst ridding our house of any germs. I felt very Motherly and nurturing, yet so heartbroken to see my little lady so unwell. For most of the morning she lay lifeless on the couch, falling in & out of sleep. She couldn't hold down food, she could hardly hold down water. She started to pep up at midday so I suggested something that I knew would make her feel a whole heap better.......

A daytime bubble bath!

Johnson's Baby recently sent me their new Top-to-Toe bath wash to try. I knew this was the perfect opportunity to use it. I squirted quite a lot into the running water so it created the perfect bubbly bed for my sick little lady. And that it did....

Ella relaxed & revived in a warm bubbly froth for a good 40 minutes. Both my kids have very sensitive skin. They are both prone to eczema, especially this time of year. So I am very apprehensive about changing washes, lotions or washing powders with them. Yet, I know I can trust Johnson's Baby as it is so mild, yet so effective. And this Top-to-Toe wash is soap free, dye-free & hypoallergenic. It's dermatologist-tested and doesn't sting the eyes with it's NO MORE TEARS formula. I love that it can be a smooth, creamy lather on a washer in the shower, or a bubbly fun mess with enough water pressure in the bath. And I love that I can use it on my kids knowing that it's protecting & moisturising their skin, not irritating it.

And the best thing about this wash - it's safe for newborns and can also be used on hyper-sensitive adult skin too. Perfect for winter dryness.

A warm frothy bath on a winter's morning was the perfect pick-me-up for our sick little girl, and although she spent the rest of the day snoozing & watching movies, she definitely looked & felt fresher after her Johnson's Bath.

And.....to celebrate Johnson's Baby's awesome Top-to-Toe wash, I have TEN {yes 10} bottles of this product to giveaway to 10 lucky readers of my blog!!!

And in a cruel twist of fete, even after my germ-killing-rampage, I still came down with the gastro. I guess it was to be expected after the night of cleaning up after Ella. By Wednesday afternoon, I was a woozy sticky mess. In fact, I had horrible morning sickness memories come flashing back. I knew I was going to be sick, but I powered through the evening routine, trying to hold it together. I served up chicken, noodle soup....coz that's what sick people need isn't it? heee! And then, literally, the second Ryder was in bed & asleep, my body gave up & sickness peaked. NOT FUN!!!! Another long, sticky, messy night was had! I spent many-a-minute sitting on the floor of the shower letting the hot water trickle over me, contemplating how much energy was needed to actually stand up & get dried! TERRIBLE!!!!! And another day of germ-killing & washing was had yesterday!! Thankfully Chris held the fort a little more than normal, by attending to Ryder during some of his night wakings, running some errands for me, and getting takeaway last night. We all seem to be ok today!! Fingers crossed Ryder doesn't get it.....it truly was the worst gastro I have yet experienced, and to imagine our tiny little man with it, makes me shudder!

But at this stage, we're feeling good and looking forward to the weekend!

Onwards & upwards.

Hey, it's almost the weekend.....why don't you enjoy a bubble bath? :)

I am not a big believer of government mandates, but maybe the government should require kids to take and pass a course in high school that deals with finance. Just maybe some the issues with debt, credit cards, and savings would disappear.

I think I followed your blog just then (haven't done it that way before!)
Exactly what you said, keeping warm, having a shower to help you feel better, and soup. Oh and I used to love my grandmother coming to visit, she would always come over to the couch and talk to me in Hungarian (even though I couldn't understand it!)

Oh Claire, you poor love! Wish I lived closer so I could drop off some lemonade and other 'get better grocery items' for you guys on your doorstep. Poor Ella, how horrible. I have a fear of gastro ever since the three of us got it last year - it was the worst thing ever being so unwell myself yet having to look after Grace so I really feel for you being unwell and having two little ones to care for as well.

I use that same baby wash for Sophie :)

New follower: I have a Ryder who is the same age but ours is a miss :)
I love snuggling under a big blanket on the couch when I'm not well and having mum on speed dial! With plenty of fluids. I love reading your blogs :) especially when I have a bub the same age as yours. Xx

I am a follower.....when I'm unwell I like to just be left alone to sleep, my hot water bottle, a good book and hot chocolate is all I require to comfort me.

So sorry to read that you have had those nasty germs in your house. Gastro is no fun at all :(

Over the Easter long week end I had a dreadful case of gastro. I never thought I could feel so sick and vomit so many times in 3 days. In the end I was so weak and dehydrated I had to call the Dr's after hours service and beg for a Dr to make an urgent house call. I have never been so happy to get an injection to stop the vomitting. I never want to get that sick ever again. Needless to say this Easter I did not look at one single chocolate Easter egg letalone eat any.

I hope those germs don't show up in your house again either. Good luck :)

I hope you're both on the mend now and that Ryder didn't catch it too. It's awful being sick. What makes me feel better when I am unwell- just being able to ring my Mum, knowing she'll offer the right advice (and she'll often come over and help out too). Mum's always know best!

June 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterClaire

I follow.

When I'm not well the best thing is peace & quiet. Hard to come by, but certainly a cure all.

June 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMary Preston

When I'm not well, wearing a scarf, relaxing on the coach, watching my favourite movie while drinking a cup of herbal tea helps me very much!

If I was sick when I was younger my Mum would always make me feel better by bringing me home a coloring book. So now even 41 years old, if I am feeling unwell, she will call and say...."Do you need a coloring book?" just hearing those words makes me feel better instantly.

When I am feeling sick, a pj day with as much time in bed as I can manage always helps, well as much time as my large family allows anyway!

Just adding that I am following as well :)

I follow your blog via Networked Blogs. When I am unwell, I try to drink as much warm tea with lemon and honey as I can and just wait until I am better! Having to chase a busy toddler when you are unwell is really, really difficult. :-(

A follower of your blog <3 I like to snuggle up on the couch with my dooner with a warm lemon and honey drink to soothe my throat <3

June 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJosie

I follow you via both Facebook and Networked Blogs. Being sick AND looking after kids is one of the hardest things ever! When I am sick, lots of sleep saves me, but it's impossible with toddlers running around. I just hang in there and think that tomorrow I will fell better! :-(

June 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSasha

see my husband walk thru the door with soup he has picked up from my mum. Then jumping into bed with clean sheets. Hope everyone is staying healthy .

Well, before having kids I had't realised you can't afford being sick after you become a Mum! Thankfully, I don't get sick often, but when I do, Thai Tom Yam soup is my remedy! Your Networked Blogs follower. E-mail: andreajerr@y7mail.com.

Great photos by the way! I am your Networked Blogs follower. The only thing that saves me when I am unwell is sleep, sleep and more sleep! Hard to do with kids though! :-(
