Welcome to the bloggy home of Claire Chadwick. I'm the face & designer behind Scissors Paper Rock Designs, a wife to Chris, Mummy to the Divine Miss Ella & our newest addition; Baby Ryder. I'm a Primary School Teacher by trade, but recently shut my classroom door to pursue other BIG dreams of Freelance Writing. I am also excited to announce that my first Children's Picture Book {So Many Sounds} will hit stores in June 2013. This blog is my little online space where I weave together my reflections and stories of Motherhood. I illustrate with photos.... and drink plenty of coffee to keep me going. I'm on a mission to turn the mundane moments of motherhood into MAGICAL ones.

Join me in seeping as much goodness out of life, {whilst I continue to drink way too much coffee & take way too many photos} and together we can make the most of our WILD & PRECIOUS LIVES!

I'd love to hear from you....comment on my posts or send me an email. Buckle up, Enjoy the ride!

Relived.....

Memories.....sweet memories!

Call me a romantic or even old fashioned but I truly find it so intriguing how our mind's have the ability to captivate a memory (good or bad) and create triggers for those memories!

The thought of Alzheimers Disease scares me silly......the notion of having no or little memories is such a tragic & unfair illness :( I've watched the movie; THE NOTEBOOK about 20 times & still bawl my eyes out every time! I try to imagine a world without memories & it breaks my heart!

Where did I get the idea to write this post? Yesterday I was driving home from a lovely afternoon at a High Tea & as I flicked around the radio stations, I stopped on 1 that I rarely listen to. They were playing 'Songs of the 90's'. Not long after tuning into this radio station, a song came on, that instantly took me back to the year 1994! I was 12 that year....in grade 7....last year of Primary School :) Once a month, a local Primary School held a Friday Night Disco. It was the 'cool' place to be! I was only allowed to attend maybe twice or three times in the year, but that was a big exciting deal! Anyways....this song yesterday (which I probably haven't heard in about 10years) took me back to that year, that feeling, that excitement, that status, that being! I was reliving in my mind, the emotions I had, the friends I had, the clothes I wore, the nerves of attending a disco ;o)

I sat in the car & giggled about how lucid this memory was! From one song, I was drawn back to all those feelings & senses....it was lovely!

Isn't it magical how a smell, a sound, a place or even a song can take you back to a memory & a feeling....as if it was only yesterday that you created it!?

What are your memory triggers?

The smell of cardamoms, sumac and spiced coffee - bring back memories of my home in Dubai, UAE.
Those smells are hard to come by in Brisbane....but any whiff from any corner just takes me down memory lane and I start to get homesick again!

Great post Claire, The song "Push It" by Salt 'n' Pepa always takes me back to the fondest memories of my teenage years & really cold/freezing days that give you that chill right to your core, always reconnects me with my oldest & dearest memory & my birth place - Canberra, brrrrrr! Well you mentioning Alzeimers actually triggered my memories of my dad. I lost him last year due to a stroke and he also had Alzeimer's. Still pretty raw i guess.

Any 80's music takes me back to high school. Especially Wham. My gf and I loved Wham! Unchained Melody takes me back to my wedding song! 14 years ago...lol.
